Every October the same thing happens. The heating goes on, the wind picks up, and my skin starts to feel tight by lunchtime. After years of working in a skin clinic, I've learned that winter skin doesn't need more products. It needs fewer, richer ones, used properly.
This is exactly what I do, morning and night.
1. Cleanse with oil, not foam
Foaming cleansers feel fresh, but they strip away the oils your skin is working hard to hold on to in cold weather. I massage a pump of Cleansing Oil into dry skin for a minute, mascara and all, then add warm water and rinse. My skin feels soft afterwards, not squeaky.
2. A few drops of serum
Three or four drops of Pro Age Serum, pressed in rather than rubbed. Serums are thinner than creams, so they go on first.
3. A rich cream on top
A pea-sized amount of Mature Skin Cream is my daily choice. Warm it between your fingertips first, then press it into your skin. In winter I use a little more on my cheeks and around my mouth, where skin tends to feel driest.
At night I swap to the Relaxing Night Cream. The lavender is lovely at the end of the day.
Three small habits that help
- Turn the shower down a notch. Very hot water dries skin out.
- Pat your face dry, don't rub.
- Put your cream on while your skin is still slightly damp.
That's it. Three steps, a few minutes, and skin that feels comfortable all day. If you'd like all three together, the Founders Routine is the set I use myself.
With love,
Maxine
